Gingerbread Magic at One Ocean Resort and Spa

12/01/2013

One Ocean Resort kicks off the holidays each year with a grand reveal of an epic gingerbread sculpture. In the past they have created a castle, igloo, and train just to name a few. As my "out of town family" arrived last week to celebrate and give thanks, I had to bring them along to find out just what the One Ocean culinary staff had in store for us this year.

My sisters with me and the munchkin.

Entering a wintery wonderland.
Many first coast families have created a tradition of coming to the unveiling. With Christmas Carols ringing through the halls and the smell of fresh gingerbread cookies, and hot mulled cider wafting through the air, I knew magic was sure to be found.

Munchkin and the Magic

This year the culinary staff tried a whole new colorful idea. Instead of a structure, they created a scene. Santa's elves took a holiday break and headed down to One Ocean to get some rays and catch some surf. The scene was truly whimsical and charming, and with over 100 lbs of fondant, and over 50 lbs of gingerbread they could give a schoolhouse full of children quite the sugar high were they aloud to take a bite.

I learned the staff had begun work on the elves back in September making this scene not just a feat of imagination, but also one of labor and dedication. Bravo!

A little gingerbread of our own
Magical memories for all

The best cider I believe I've had the privilege of tasting.
